Is the PG era really ruining the history of WWE?

Question by Crazy Mofo Punk™: Is the PG era really ruining the history of WWE?
Agree or disagree?

The facts are here:

- I mean I can understand and like the new names for some PPV’s, Breaking Point, Extreme Rules, The Bash(BTW, it was “The Bash” last year). But now they’re going to change the name of Survivor Series, to Five-on-Five, why change it to a boring name with no creativity, also at Survivor Series was where a great superstar such as The Undertaker debut, plus it’s been around since the early 90′s… Now they want to change the name of “Hell in a Cell”, to “The Cell”…how ridiculous…

- Superstars cannot swear, show sexuality, or anything of that nature…which is killing the gimmick some superstars have, such as Edge…who is “The Rated R Superstar”, supposedly…

- Less techincal wrestling. We’ve witnessed great techincal matches in the past with superstars such as Bret Hart, Benoit, Angle, Jericho, Michaels, etc, but now we don’t even see that, and we have superstars like Edge, Jericho, Punk, who can put on a great amount of techincal wrestling in a match…

- NO MORE BLOOD…why not? Because it’s too graphic to the kids? That’s unheard of, kids bleed all the time, but when they see superstars bleed it’s too graphic. Something has to change…

- The Championships, especially the World and WWE Championships, they’ve been passed on to another superstar every other PPV, to the same superstars, and it’s getting truly ridiculous how the U.S. and I.C. titles are being used nowadays, they were held by the greatest of the greats, Harley Race, The Rock, Bret Hart, Stone Cold, Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Ric Flair, Edge, Chris Jericho, Randy Savage, Ricky Steamboat, I can go on for hours, but I won’t…

- LESS HARDCORE MATCHES, such as Hell in a Cells, Steel Cages, Elimination Chambers, Street Fights, Hardcore matches, I Quit matches, etc, and even when we do see them nowadays the superstars don’t even show any blood, sweat, nor tears…

- Less superstars being pushed, I don’t like superstars like Cena, Triple H, nor Jeff Hardy, but they’re the kids favorites. Wait a minute wasn’t Triple H one of the most hated heels ever? Now he’s a kid’s favorite superstar. WWE pushes these superstars over the edge, Hardy gets pushed too much, as he has no wrestling talent, nor does Cena, who is the worst WWE Champion of all time, surpassing Arquette and others. Triple H has just gotten over too many times, especially at his age, he is thirty eight, beating the youngest, brightest superstar in WWE, four times in 2008, and at Wrestlemania XXV, which was suppose to be Orton’s biggest victory of his career so far…

I mean I have thousands of other rants, but I won’t post em…

    I Agree.

  2. loni b says:

to be honest i don’t really care anymore. wwe doesn’t care about the fans anymore. things can’t always be the same. it’s not 1998 anymore. in my opinion. it’s not the pg. it’s the creative team not doing their jobs right. i think they should come up with some better storylines or something cuz this sh!t they have now isn’t entertaining. i think there is ‘ a way they can come up with great storylines and feuds that is for everyone, but would still be suitable for children.

    100% yes

ECW triple threat HARDCORE match…..no blood, that says it all EC FN W is dead….who wants to see HHH v ORTON every week? not me, no new talent, CM PUNK??? not much of a punk really, Bad promos, In the UK its on at 2am (live) how many kids are up at 2am on a monday, and its repeated at 9pm again how many kids will watch that? John Cena…dont get me started, 5 moves of doom getting shoved in my face every week, he cant wrestle, hes not great on the mic, hes not funny and he wants to be black…..

just ask yourself what was better…..Undertaker v Mankind Hell in a cell or batista v orton last week in their cage match??

I hardly watch wwe any more, its all about TNA, cross the line.

    i agree 100%
but there really isn’t anything we can do about it. they don’t care about what we have to say and they don’t care about us. and i do not understand why they are doing this because they are losing more viewers. kids don’t have so much impact in the wwe. the people who are old enough to actually understand what is going on have the greater impact. sometimes i feel that they should judt go on disney channel and leave us all alone.

  5. Union Underground says:

I already knew the PG Era was ruining the WWE but are they seriously going to change the name of Survivor Series? How the hell can that PPV’s name be offensive?

  6. _J_X29 says:

I’m going to disagree and find the faults in your supposed “facts.”

I agree that some of the name changes are just plain stupid but whoever said WWE was changing Survivor Series to Five on Five is more than likely lying as I have never heard that before, probably another internet rumor thats being shown wrong.

Wrestling should not be built around sexuality or swearing so your second fact, although true, is meaningless and actually a possible benefit to the “PG Era.”

Less Technical Wrestling? Considering the Attitude Era was just a few years back, we have been getting quite a bit of technical wrestling since then. Besides, your views on wrestling alter with every paragraph, on one hand you want instantaneous hardcore matches then you say you want technical matches then you say Orton is the bright future of the WWE despite not proving to be good in either of those aspects. People like Shelton Benjamin, CM Punk, Rey Mysterio, Chris Jericho, and many more are still going out there week after week giving brilliant technical matches all the time. If you want technical wrestling, look at ECW – a wrestling fan’s goldmine in WWE.

No more blood? Blood is solely a storyline enhancer – nothing more. When it was overused it made storylines dull with it. Besides, stars can still have blood, just not to the same extent. They may push each other to forcing themselves to actually make real blood without bladejobs now and again just as older stars did in earlier “PG Eras.” We saw it with Flair, Orton, and we will more than likely see it again a few times in a matter of weeks.

Who exactly are you against in your rant about championships? You say Triple H is one of the greats with the championships and then say that he’s gotten over too many times? Then you say that it gets eexchanged too many times but when Cena had the championship for a year or Triple H had it for the 7 months in 08, I wouldn’t doubt you were among those complaining. As for IC -US title runs, is there something wrong with what MVP had been doing? Kofi can do well with the championship as well. And Jericho – Mysterio can bring quality matches to the table each and every time they go at it.

Less hardcore matches – these are simply gimmick matches, they happen on PPV all the time. No holds barred/ No DQ have happened in some way in every PPV since at least No Way Out. Extreme Rules just passed with a full set of gimmick matches, I don’t see your point here.

Less superstars being pushed? It doesn’t matter who you like personally since Cena, Triple H, and Hardy are as over as can be right now. Besides you complain when the ones you hate get pushed to the top but what about Orton who you claim to be the future is getting on every show every week, matches on RAW and then taking at least 10 minutes of air-time on every other show with replays. Wrestlemania 25 needed Triple H to win for storyline’s sake, besides Orton won the title at Backlash either way so it didn’t particularly matter especially since he pinned Triple H.

Go ahead and post your thousand rants, the arguments will probably be even more shallow than these.

  7. 13 Times The King of Kings says:

I agree this name change is BS i have no problem much with PG there have been more pure wrestling than just violence and promos from the Attitude Era. I hate this name change they’re killing all the legacies left behind by great superstars and memorable moments. Survivor Series its so much memory and great PPVs like Great American Bash and so many other great PPVs have been replaced with breaking point stupid submission PPV and Five on Five. Even match names are getting switched and its ridiculous.

I agree completely this PG killed superstar gimmicks. Rated PG superstar is Edge’s new name now. Wrestlers cant show any violence which is the whole point of wrestling. Wrestling is not all about promos or cussing though so i don’t mind those reduced. Sometimes its alright but the focus is wrestling not vulgar promos so i m not too bad with the PG when it comes to wrestling.

Actually there’s more technical wrestling since its PG Attitude Era was promos and mic talk the PG has improved wrestling. We see pure wrestling matches in ECW Smackdown and Raw. Superstars are just watered down WWE is just afraid of superstars getting hurt with their hectic schedule. WWE waters down superstars too much and its not PG era they’re scared for their wrestlers.

I hate the fact that there’s no more blood because blood made feuds more heated and intense. People bleed all the time its turning unrealistic if theres no blood. Championships too they’re switched every time but thats not due to PG that’s WWE’s stupid decisions to switch titles every month which kills prestige for the title. Less hardcore matches i agree there’s more pure wrestling and sometimes violent brutal finishes are needed to end a feud. Sometimes fans want to see more than just pure wrestling and need to see violence.

Actually we have seen more superstars pushed than ever we see MVP getting pushed John Morrison getting pushed Randy Orton getting pushed CM Punk getting pushed and others. True not all of them make it to the top but still these superstars are all getting pushes from WWE. Triple H can carry Raw something most superstars can’t do and so could John Cena. Cena carried Raw for two years Orton hasn’t exactly done a amazing job with Raw i mean has Raw been fun lately NO. John Cena carried Great Khail through the feud who can do that. Triple H as champion is boring i admit but he has good mic skills he can carry a storyline on the mic and his sledgehammer sure beats promos. Jeff Hardy gets humongous pops more than any other superstar today of course WWE will push him.

I agree with you on most points great question.

  8. Sarah Doublemint says:

    Disagree.
    I’ll keep this short.
I think a talented wrestler can put on a good match regardless of whether or not he draws blood. We’ve still got John Morrison doing crazy flips off the turnbuckle and Randy Orton punting people in the skull.
I agree that the sex appeal aspect is lame, but I’m mixed on that. The Diva search got banned because of the PG rating, and I don’t mind that at all. On the other hand, I am going to miss the raunchy promos the superstars cut.
Several other problems mentioned above are more the fault of WWE than the rating. The titles being treated like hot potatos would still happen regardless of the rating, and useless stars like Cena and Kelly Kelly would still be pushed.

I really wish the PG rating hadn’t happened, but I wouldn’t say it cripples the WWE.

  9. Y2Jfαи™ says:

LOL, People are overreacting with the PG era that people are using the PG as a scapegoat for WWE not pushing superstars and many championship being passed around

And did you even watch the Attitude era?
What does the PG have to do with the titles?
Back at the Attitude era, the titles changed numerous times especially the hardcore title
